Broadview Family Law is a small practice serving King and Snohomish Counties. Two things here are meant for colleagues rather than clients: the financial discovery method we built and now run as a separate service, and the terms on which we take referrals and co-counsel work.

Financial discovery without a subpoena

Valuing an account as of a separation date means reconstructing what it held on a day that almost never lands on a statement close. Subpoenaing the custodian is slow, costs the institution and your client money, and returns monthly summaries you then have to interpolate between.

We built civilrule26.com to do it the other way. The account holder authorizes a read-only, revocable retrieval at their own institution, and the records come back at transaction level with posting dates and amounts — enough to compute a balance for any day inside the window, and to pull it again later to confirm nothing moved. The comparison against produced statements runs dimension by dimension.

Attorneys order directly and pay per investigation, with the price shown before anything is sent to the account holder. There is no subscription and no referral arrangement — we are not paid for sending you there.

A model brief you can adapt

A court will ask why this method is proportional, whether the records can be authenticated, and whether it intrudes less than the subpoena it replaces. We wrote the memorandum making that argument — Rule 26(b)(1) proportionality, Rule 45(d)(1) burden on the non-party institution, authentication under Rules 901(b)(9), 902(13) and 902(14), and proposed order language — and published it for anyone to adapt.
